Geology · Formation

How it forms: Natural zoning via heat gradients.

Ametrine is a geological oddity—a single crystal that is half Amethyst and half Citrine. It forms in a very specific environment where quartz grows in a temperature-gradient zone. Natural iron impurities are present in the quartz, but one side of the crystal is 'baked' at a higher temperature than the other side. The Result: A distinct color split: purple on one end and golden-yellow on the other, occurring within the same crystal lattice.
