Black Kyanite is a dramatic, fan-shaped mineral that grows in 'blade-like' structures deep in the Earth. It forms in regional metamorphic environments, such as mica schists, under very high pressure. Aluminum-rich sediments are 'squeezed' and 'baked' during the collision of continental plates. The Result: Distinctive, black fan-shaped clusters of long, flat blades with a metallic-silky luster.
