Celestite (also known as Celestine) is a strontium sulfate mineral that forms in soft, sky-blue 'clouds' of crystals. It typically forms in sedimentary environments, notably in limestone and sandstone cavities. Strontium-rich groundwater evaporates or precipitates in rock pockets, forming these delicate blue prisms. The Result: Heavy nodules or 'geodes' filled with pale, translucent blue crystals with a glassy luster.
