Geology · Formation
How it forms: Oxidation zones of copper deposits.
Dioptase is one of the most visually stunning copper minerals, known for its intense 'emerald-green' color. It forms as a secondary mineral in the oxidation zones of copper ore deposits, typically in arid desert environments. Carbonated water reacts with copper minerals in the presence of silica. The Result: Small, brilliant, translucent green rhombohedral crystals.
