Epidote is a common but beautiful mineral whose name means 'addition,' referring to its complex crystal structure. It forms primarily as an 'alteration' mineral—where other rocks are 're-cooked' by hydrothermal fluids. The low-to-medium grade metamorphism of calcium-rich igneous or sedimentary rocks triggers the formation. The Result: Prismatic, pistachio-green to dark green crystals.
