Geology · Formation
How it forms: Hydrothermal veins in limestone.
Fluorite is the 'most colorful mineral in the world,' famous for its perfect geometry. It is most commonly found in hydrothermal veins, where hot, fluorine-rich fluids rise through limestone. The fluorine in the water reacts with the calcium in the rock to form Calcium Fluoride (CaF2). The Result: Perfect cubic or octahedral crystals in a wide range of colors.
