How it forms: Chromium-rich muscovite mica.
Fuchsite is a sparkling green variety of Muscovite mica, named after the German chemist Johann Fuchs. It forms in regional metamorphic rocks, particularly schists and gneisses. Trace amounts of Chromium replace the aluminum in the mica's crystal lattice. Result: Bright, shimmering green 'books' of thin, flexible plates.
