Geology · Formation
How it forms: Primary ore of lead in hydrothermal veins.
Galena is the primary ore of lead and one of the heaviest common minerals on Earth. It forms in hydrothermal veins, often alongside silver, quartz, and fluorite. Hot, sulfur-rich fluids react with lead in the Earth's crust to form Lead Sulfide (PbS). The Result: Metallic, silver-grey cubes that break into perfect right angles.
