Geology · Formation

How it forms: Lithium pegmatites with manganese.

Kunzite is the pink variety of Spodumene, named after the legendary gemologist George Frederick Kunz. It forms in lithium-rich granite pegmatites. Trace amounts of Manganese (Mn3+) within the crystal lattice create the transparent, lilac-to-vivid pink color.
