About this stone

How it forms: High-heat pegmatite sheets.
Muscovite is a common variety of mica that forms in thin, shimmering, transparent sheets. It forms in regional metamorphic rocks like schist and gneiss, as well as in granite pegmatites. High-pressure metamorphism or high-heat cooling of silica-rich magmas creates the sheets. The Result: 'Books' of flexible sheets that can be peeled into paper-thin layers.
