Optical Calcite (Iceland Spar) is a clear rhombohedral crystal with a unique optical trick. It forms in massive sedimentary deposits or via hydrothermal activity. High concentrations of calcium and carbonate in clear environments allow for the slanted 'rhomb' crystals to grow. The Result: Perfectly clear crystals that display extreme 'double refraction.'
