About this stone
A bright olive-green gem formed deep in the Earth's mantle and in meteorites. Peridot dispels lethargy, brings abundance, and promotes growth. It is the stone of light — shining warmth even in the darkest emotional winters.
Geology · Formation
How it forms: Forms deep in the mantle (magmatic).
Peridot is the gem variety of Olivine, born deep within the Earth's mantle rather than the crust. It forms deep in the mantle in ultramafic rocks and is brought to the surface by volcanic eruptions. High pressure and heat in the mantle force the crystal structure into an 'olive' green color center. The Result: Brilliant, lime-green crystals often found in basalt 'bombs.'
