Rainbow Obsidian is a volcanic glass that reveals a secret rainbow when light hits it. It forms during volcanic eruptions when silica-rich lava cools. Tiny inclusions of magnetite or other iron-rich minerals are oriented in thin layers within the glass. The Result: A seemingly black stone that flashes rings of purple, green, and gold when held to the sun.
