About this stone
Black Obsidian with white 'snowflake' inclusions of Cristobalite. It balances body, mind, and spirit while gently bringing shadow aspects to light. Snowflake Obsidian promotes purity of thought and helps recognize and release destructive patterns.
Geology · Formation
How it forms: De-vitrifying white spots in glass.
Snowflake Obsidian is a volcanic glass that has begun to 'un-glass' itself. It forms when silica-rich lava cools quickly into Obsidian. Over time, the glass begins to 'de-vitrify'—small impurities of water or gas trigger the growth of white Cristobalite crystals. The Result: A black volcanic glass with white, star-shaped 'snowflakes' trapped inside.
