Ignite Rock
What it is
An ultramafic igneous rock from deep in Earth's mantle. Kimberlite is famous as the primary host rock for diamonds — kimberlite pipes are volcanic conduits that bring diamonds from 150+ km depth to the surface in explosive eruptions.
How it forms
Kimberlite magma originates at extreme depths (150–450 km) in the upper mantle. It rises rapidly through the crust in violent eruptions, carrying diamonds and other deep-Earth minerals as passengers.
