Vanadate

What it is

Rare minerals containing the vanadium ion. Vanadinite forms stunning hexagonal crystals in bright red-orange, prized by collectors. It's one of the main ores of vanadium, a metal used in steel alloys.

How it forms

Forms in the oxidation zone of lead ore deposits where vanadium-bearing groundwater reacts with lead minerals.
