How it forms: Manganese inclusions in zoisite.
Thulite is the manganese-rich variety of the mineral Zoisite, named after the mythical land of Thule. It forms through the metamorphism of calcium-rich rocks in the presence of manganese. Moderate tectonic heat 're-cooks' limestone or igneous rocks, forcing manganese into the zoisite lattice. The Result: An opaque, baby-pink to deep rose stone.
