Geology · Formation

How it forms: Quartz replacing fibrous crocidolite.

Tiger's Eye is a 'pseudomorph'—a mineral that has taken the shape of another. It begins as a fibrous blue mineral called Crocidolite. Over millions of years, silica replaces the original fibers while perfectly preserving their fibrous structure. The Result: A dense, golden-to-brown quartz that displays a silky cat-eye effect.
