Geology · Formation
How it forms: Zoning from pink (Mn) to green (Fe).
Watermelon Tourmaline is a geological miracle of 'zoning.' It forms in granite pegmatites from mineral-rich magmatic fluids. During growth, the chemical composition of the fluid changes. It begins with high Manganese (Pink) and finishes with high Iron (Green). The Result: A crystal with a pink core and a green outer rim.
