Forms in the 'oxidation zone' of zinc-bearing ore deposits—a shallow area where ore is exposed to oxygen and water. Arsenic-rich fluids react with zinc minerals (like smithsonite) in the presence of air. The Result: Radiating, pinwheel-like crystal clusters that are often found on a rusty-brown limonite matrix.
