Aragonite is a calcium carbonate mineral that often grows in spectacular, star-like radiating clusters. It forms in a variety of low-temperature environments, including caves (as 'cave flowers') and near hot springs. Rapid precipitation from carbonate-rich waters, often influenced by the presence of magnesium, creates the clusters. The Result: Geometric 'sputnik' or 'star' clusters of hexagonal prisms, often in earthy brown or reddish-orange hues.
