Geology · Formation
How it forms: Forms as copper-rich rocks 'rust.'
Azurite is an intense indigo-blue copper mineral that acts as a 'weathering indicator' for copper deposits. It forms in the 'oxidation zone' of copper ore deposits where copper-rich rocks are exposed to air and rain. Carbonated water reacts with copper-bearing minerals, causing the blue Azurite to precipitate in veins and clusters. The Result: Stunning, deep-blue crystals or earthy masses, often found intergrown with green Malachite.
