Geology · Formation

How it forms: Sedimentary or volcanic origins.

Jasper is an opaque variety of Chalcedony, known for its endless variety of 'painted' patterns. It forms in sedimentary or volcanic environments where silica-rich fluids fill rock voids. High concentrations of 'impurities'—usually iron, clay, or ash—make the quartz 100% opaque. The Result: A tough, dense stone in every color and pattern imaginable.
