How it forms: Internal 'twinning' planes of layers.

Labradorite is a 'plagioclase feldspar' that creates a flash known as labradorescence. It forms in mafic igneous rocks (like basalt or gabbro) as they cool from molten magma. During cooling, the crystal undergoes 'twinning'—the lattice grows in a mirror-image pattern, creating incredibly thin, parallel planes. The Result: Like a prism, these layers interfere with light waves, reflecting back blue or gold colors.
