About this stone

Clear or milky Agate with green 'mossy' inclusions of minerals. Moss Agate connects to the plant kingdom, promotes new beginnings, and attracts abundance. It refreshes the soul, balances emotions, and encourages patience during growth cycles.

Geology · Formation

How it forms: Manganese dendrites look like moss.

Moss Agate is the quintessential 'Stone of the Garden,' although it contains no actual organic matter. It forms in volcanic cavities from silica-rich fluids. Manganese or Iron oxides grow in branching 'dendritic' patterns within the silica gel. The Result: Translucent chalcedony filled with green 'moss' or red 'roots.'
