Red Jasper is a dense, opaque variety of chalcedony that owes its color to deep iron saturation. It forms in sedimentary or volcanic environments where silica-rich fluids fill rock voids. High concentrations of iron oxide (hematite) during the deposition process result in a tough, brick-red stone.
