Geology · Formation
How it forms: Stalactite growth in silver mines.
Rhodochrosite is a manganese carbonate known for its striking pink and white banding. It primarily forms in hydrothermal veins of silver and lead mines. Mineral-rich water containing manganese and carbonate ions drips through rock cavities, building up in concentric, rhythmic layers like stalactites. The Result: The iconic 'bacon-strip' or 'bullseye' patterns.
