How it forms: Hematite/Copper platelets in magma.
Sunstone is a variety of plagioclase feldspar that carries its own internal light source. It forms in igneous rocks as they cool from lava. Tiny, flat platelets of Hematite or Copper are trapped in the feldspar lattice in a parallel orientation. The Result: A shimmering metallic glitter or glow that flashes when the stone is moved.
